Vocal Fold PRP Applications
Vocal fold PRP applications are among the regenerative treatment methods used to support tissue healing and improve voice quality. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is obtained from the patient’s own blood and contains a high concentration of growth factors. The aim of this treatment is to support the healing process within the vocal fold tissue, improve tissue quality, and contribute to healthier vocal fold vibration.
PRP applications may be used as a supportive treatment option especially in cases of vocal fold atrophy, vocal fold thinning, sulcus vocalis, scar tissue, and certain chronic voice disorders. They may also be preferred in selected professional voice users to support vocal performance. An individualized treatment plan is created based on the patient’s symptoms, vocal demands, and examination findings.
During the procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and processed to obtain PRP, which is then injected into the vocal folds. Depending on the patient’s condition, the procedure may be performed under local anesthesia in the office setting or in the operating room. The procedure is generally brief, and most patients are able to return to their daily activities within a short time.
The goal of vocal fold PRP applications is not only to strengthen the voice. The treatment also aims to support the vibratory properties of the vocal folds, improve voice quality, and reduce the sense of vocal effort during speaking. In some patients, PRP applications may be combined with voice therapy or other voice treatments.
